Receipt or invoice
An invoice asks for money and is issued before payment. A receipt confirms money has arrived and is issued after. They often carry the same line items, but only the receipt records how and when it was paid. If you are chasing payment you want an invoice.
What belongs on a receipt
Your business name and contact details, a receipt number, the date of payment, what was bought, the amount, any tax, the total, and the payment method. For cash payments a signature line is common. Keep a copy: in most places receipts form part of the records you must keep for tax.
Receipt generator: common questions
Is the receipt generator free?
Yes. No account, no watermark and no cap on how many you make.
What is the difference between a receipt and an invoice?
An invoice requests payment before it is made. A receipt confirms payment after it has been made, and records the method and date.
Can I use these receipts for taxes?
They contain the fields tax authorities normally expect, but requirements differ by country. Check what your own rules demand, particularly around tax numbers and wording.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The receipt is built in your browser and never uploaded. Close the tab and nothing remains.
Can I print it on a small till roll?
The PDF is a standard page. For thermal till rolls, use the API with a custom page size instead.
Need this inside your own app?
The same engine runs behind the html4pdf API: post HTML, a URL or a JSON template and get a PDF back in the same request. Nothing is stored on our side. New accounts get 10 free credits.
